Sponsor Kyle & Spread The Word…
For 23 days in June and July, Kyle Martin, from Bewdley in Worcestershire, will be cycling solo the entire 2,162 mile route of the 2012 Tour de France as a fundraiser for Teenage Cancer Trust. A stage each day, exactly like the pro riders, starting a week before them. To ride a single stage is extreme, to ride all 21 is a mammoth task and deserves your support.
Kyle is hoping to raise £10,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity devoted to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young people with cancer . . . → Read More
Who?
Hello, my name is Kyle Martin and I am a 42 year old web designer and recreational cyclist from Bewdley in Worcestershire, UK.
Assisted by my support team, my wife Kay, I will be cycling the entire 2012 Tour de France route on my bike this summer, a stage each day, a week before the pro riders start.
|
|
Why?
The ride is in memory of my father, Robert Martin, who sadly passed away from cancer in August 2002.
I have watched the Tour de France since I was a youngster and always wanted to ride it, and in 2012 I will get my chance.
To mark the 10th anniversary of my father’s passing I will ride my own Tour de France, raising money for my chosen charity, Teenage Cancer Trust.
|
|
When?
The actual race takes place over 3 weeks in June and July, starting with a 6.1 km prologue in Liege, Belgium, on Saturday 30th June 2012.
My Tour de France will start one week before the pro riders on Saturday 23rd June 2012, hopefully avoiding most of the chaos that surrounds “Le Tour”.

The Charity
Teenage Cancer Trust is a charity established in 1990, which is devoted to improving the lives of teenagers and young adults with cancer.
The charity focuses on the needs of young adults by providing specialist units in NHS hospitals with areas dedicated for teenage patients in an environment tailored to their needs.

“Le Tour”
The Tour de France is the most famous cycle race in the world and for the most part takes place in France for 3 weeks every July.
In 2012 the Tour will be 2,162 miles raced over 23 days, including a 6.1 km prologue, 2 individual time trials, 9 flat stages, 9 medium and high mountain stages, with 2 rest days.

The Route
In 2012 the Tour actually starts in Liege and spends 3 days in Belgium, before heading east to northern France and Rouen.
It then turns to the Alps, where there is a mountain top stage finish in Switzerland, before heading for the Pyrenees. It finishes in Paris on the Champs-Élysées 3 weeks later.
